About The Sometimes

The Sometimes are a rock band. Their unconventional, original compositions are at once heavy, bluesy, and melodic and feature a relentlessly driving rhythm section, soaring and atmospheric lead guitar, and lush acoustic textures.

Based in Northern Virginia, the band serves as a showcase for the original songwriting of its members.

Release of "Cicada Nation" Album in 2018

In 2018, The Sometimes will release it's first full-length album titled "Cicada Nation." The album represents a culmination of efforts over multiple years of writing, arranging, and recording of all-original material.

The title track explores themes relating to how the use of new technologies when paired with internet allow just about anyone to share art and ideas for public consumption. It's a bit of a double-edged sword. While it's great that everyone now has a voice, there's so much noise it's nearly impossible to cut through it all. Like in late-Summer months, huge broods of cicadas emerge from the earth and create a wall of sound that's instantly recognizable yet void of individuality.

Responding to this call, Cicada Nation covers a variety of character studies from multiple perspectives and reflects the musical personalities of each songwriter while demonstrating the band's commitment to authenticity in art.

If the likes of REM or Counting Crows spent some time in the Appalachians, you'd end up with The Sometimes. This band has a sound built from their Virginian roots, incorporating Americana and bluesy undertones into an alternative framework. Hailing from Fairfax, the quartet put out a new EP, Standoff, that inspires nostalgic introspection and features eloquent repetition. Energetic power chords and moderately raspy vocals produce a standout vibe...”
